2013 Paid Summer Internship
Education Outreach Intern
To assist in the enhancement of the District’s education and public relations program and assist in delivering the District’s message concerning RRRR, source reduction, composting, HHW management and general environmental protection.
RWRDPC Education Programs
District education program lessons integrate Indiana curricula and are thought provoking and interactive in nature. Educators provide hands-on, interactive experiences to engage learners in real world concepts. Lessons not only provide an opportunity for learning but prompt continued inquiry.
Essential Position Functions
Education: Should be college-bound or already working on college degree.
Assist in:
- Assist Education Coordinator with preparation for summer camps
- Provide assistance with education for children who attend summer camps
- Public relations outreach and development
- Research gaps in public relations program
- Development of special programs
- Logistics of major events when necessary
- Maintain, update and create print media
- Attend education presentations when requested
General
- Attend meetings and special events as requested by supervisors.
- Answer phone calls when in office and supply all necessary information regarding solid waste management and local government to residents.
- Assist District staff on various research and clerical projects.
Job Requirements and Difficulty of Work
Majors wanted:
- Environmental Science; Communication; Elementary Education; General Business; Liberal Studies; Marketing & Public Relations; or related field
Job Targets wanted:
- Biological and Environmental Sciences; Education; Public Relations; Marketing Advertising and Sales
- Organization and strong communication skills.
- Computer literacy.
- Be highly motivated and self-directed.
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
- Minimal physical demands.
- Work hours are maximum 28 hours per week for a maximum of 12 weeks. Work hours to be determined and agreed upon at time of hire.
- Out of town travel is rare but possible.
Working Conditions
Functions performed in an office environment and also park settings with minimal physical demands and occasional irregular and/or extended work hours.
